Exploring the Suburbs of Mombasa: A Unique Composition of Culture, Comfort and Coastal Experience

Mombasa is one of the largest cities in Kenya situated on the Indian Ocean coast and though it boasts of some of the best sandy shorelines, it has a lot more to offer than sandy beaches and old structures. Outside downtown, lies a number of suburbs, all their own with distinct styles and personalities. Starting from residential estates, right down to business and central business districts, the Suburbs of Mombasa offer a variety of environments that are suited for habitation or businesses by the people of Mombasa and other people who come to the region. It is now about time to turn deeper into a few of the most interesting and culturally-loaded suburbs that Mombasa can boast of.

  1. Nyali: zzles through The Upscale Coastal Gem.

Nyali is among the most prosperous and widely known suburbs of Mombasa, which lies to the north from the city center, to be more precise, it is reached by the Nyali Bridge. This suburb boasts of big, beautiful houses, places of recreation like Nyali’s beach front, and modern facilities which attract expatriates and tourists as well as comparably well-off Kenyans. Currently the suburb comprises primarily of residential premises and facilities such as shopping malls, restaurants, and entertainment facilities.

But that notwithstanding, Bamburi also presents a residential feel with accommodation varieties including apartments and well built houses. The tourism highlight is the Bamburi Beach through which the travelers can engage in various activities such as snorkeling and scuba diving among other activities within the coral reefs. Also there exists what is known as the Bamburi Nature Trail (Haller Park) which is an exhausted quarry land that has been turned into a wonderful natural reserve area that one can visit to make them relieve from the daily activities.

The suburb also has the Technical University of Mombasa and therefore is extensively populated with students and other academic staff.   1. Shanzu: It is a coastal suburb and has a laid back feel to it.

Shanzu which is a developing suburb along Mombasa-Malindi Highway produces movies depicting solace and classy coastline with awesome beaches. Several resorts and hotels are located in Shanzu hence, tourists looking for the quieter areas as compared to nearby beaches closer to the central business district of Mombasa gravitate towards this area.

It is an ideal area for both living and doing business since it has both residential and retail accommodation with new building projects to meet the increasing population and demand for recreational facilities. The overall layout of Shanzu offers little disturbance that might interfere with one’s serenity and since it is located near the shores, it offers the best coastal living environment.
